THE STORY OF WARD

I named Ward to honor my Grandfather. His name was Don.

You see Don’s first job was as a delivery driver for a Detroit bakery named Ward Tip-Top Bakery. The legend goes that every delivery driver called each other by the name Ward. That nickname would follow my grandfather the rest of his life, and he even passed it onto me as Little Ward.

The most important thing to my grandfather was providing for his family. That’s why he went out on his own and started a successful small business. He always instilled principals in me such as: “buy it once”, “take care of your tools and they’ll take care of you”, “hard-work is the only way to get anywhere in life”, “love you neighbor and fellow man”.

American values, right?

My grandfather passed away twenty years ago, but the time I spent with him in my formative years made me into the man I am today, and it’s through the name Ward that I will carry on his legacy.

You won’t read about his story or see it in the movies. But to me, his is a story that any hardworking person from the U.S. of A. can relate to. That’s the mission of this brand. To relate with hardworking people and provide access to well made, affordable goods that will last for future generations.

Many may think the American Dream is dead. We want to do our part by bringing it back. That’s why 95% of our goods are hand-made, right here. We partner with local small businesses in the Detroit area and celebrate handcrafted goods built to withstand the test of time. Just like “Ward” and his simple humbling story.
